The multi-tier rewards meter turns Caddy’s free shipping bar into a ladder of up to three spending goals, each with its own reward — for example: spend $50 for free shipping, $75 for a free gift, $100 for 10% off. As customers add items, the meter fills toward the next tier in real time. Multi-tier rewards are a Caddy Pro feature (the free version includes the single free shipping meter).
Configure it at Caddy > Settings, in the Rewards Meter section.
Setting up tiers
Each of the three tiers has the same controls:
- Enable — toggle the tier on. Tiers unlock in order, so set ascending threshold amounts (tier 2 should cost more than tier 1).
- Threshold Amount — the cart subtotal the customer needs to reach.
- Reward Type — Free Shipping, Free Gift, or Cart Discount.
- Progress Message — the text shown while the customer is below the threshold. Use the
{amount}variable for the remaining amount, e.g. “Spend {amount} more for a free gift!”. Leave blank to use Caddy’s default message. - Confetti Celebration — fire a confetti animation in the cart the moment the tier unlocks.
If you were already using the free shipping meter, your existing settings carry over automatically as tier 1.
How each reward type works
- Free Shipping — pairs with a WooCommerce free shipping method, exactly like the classic free shipping meter. Make sure free shipping is configured in WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping first (see configuring the free shipping meter).
- Free Gift — pick a product, and Caddy adds it to the cart automatically at $0 when the tier unlocks. The gift’s quantity is locked, customers can’t add or remove it manually, and it doesn’t count toward reaching other tiers. If the gift product goes out of stock it’s skipped automatically and returns when restocked.
- Cart Discount — applies a discount to the cart, either a percentage or a fixed amount. If a customer unlocks more than one discount tier, only the highest applicable discount applies — they don’t stack.
Calculation settings
Below the tiers, three global settings control how progress is measured:
- Tax Calculation — count the cart subtotal Before Tax or After Tax.
- Coupon Calculation — Before Coupon counts the subtotal before discounts; After Coupon means applied coupons reduce progress toward tiers.
- Excluded Product Categories — products in these categories don’t count toward thresholds (useful for gift cards or items you don’t want subsidizing free shipping).
Free gift items added by the meter never count toward thresholds, regardless of these settings.
