How to configure the free shipping meter

The free shipping meter shows customers how close they are to unlocking free shipping, updating in real time as they add items. It’s one of the most effective ways to raise average order value, and it’s included in the free version of Caddy.

Setup is two parts: configure free shipping in WooCommerce, then tell Caddy the threshold.

Step 1: Configure free shipping in WooCommerce

  1. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping and open the shipping zone you want to offer free shipping in.
  2. Add (or edit) a Free shipping method.
  3. Set “Free shipping requires…” to A minimum order amount and enter your threshold (e.g. 50).
  4. Save changes.

Step 2: Set the meter threshold in Caddy

Go to Caddy > Settings > Free Shipping Meter and set:

  • Trigger amount — must match the minimum order amount you set in WooCommerce. Leave it blank to disable the meter.
  • Include taxes in the shipping calculation — match this to whether your WooCommerce minimum applies before or after tax.
  • Free shipping country — the country your free shipping offer applies to (defaults to your store’s base country).

The meter now appears in the cart, fills as the customer adds items, and switches to a congratulations message when they cross the threshold.

Using Caddy Pro?

With Pro active, the free shipping meter is managed as tier 1 of the rewards meter (your existing settings migrate automatically). That unlocks a custom progress message, a confetti celebration on unlock, product-category exclusions, tax/coupon calculation options — and up to two more reward tiers (free gifts, cart discounts) above free shipping. See setting up the multi-tier rewards meter.
